Welcome to the Learning Support Department. Our aims are to ensure that the educational needs of all our pupils are met. Pupils with SEN and/or Disabilities will have access to a full, broad and balanced curriculum and will be offered equal opportunities to achieve.
At Methodist College, we strive to provide the highest possible standard of support for pupils with special needs.
The Learning Support Department consists of a number of staff including our Learning Support Coordinator, Deputy Learning Support Coordinator, Learning Support Mentors and Adult Assistants. We care for pupils that have needs in areas including Social, Behavioural, Emotional Well-being (SBEW); Cognition and Learning (CL); Speech Language and Communication (SLCN); Physical Needs (P); Sensory Needs (SE).
The Learning Support Department ensures that pupils with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities are supported in school through either Reasonable Adjustment Plans (RAPS) or Personal Learning Plans (PLPs). These are created, monitored and evaluated by specially trained staff. This process involves close co-operation between pupils, their teachers and parents. Support is also available, when necessary, through additional Adult Assistants. This level of support is determined by the Education Authority.
