This site is for everyone who is interested in finding our more about the Romania Society in Methody. We hope to take you on a virtual journey to Brasov, Romania where you will be able to see how your hard work has allowed us to buy much needed aid for the children in Romania. We also aim to use this site as an information base, so if you want to know whats happening with the society, keep checking the site! Background to the Society:- In 1989 many of us witnessed the fall of Communism in Romania, and many more people may have seen the harrowing pictures of the state of the orphanages in Romania. As a result of those images School Aid Romania was born, this is an organisation which facilitates Lower Sixth students from Northern Ireland to travel to Brasov, Romania. During their week long visit, the students distribute aid and work with the children in local schools, orphanages and hospitals. However, School Aid Romania also strives to promote cross community awareness, so that each group of schools that visit Romania is composed of a cross section of the community. The trip has been running for over ten years and has had a huge impact on the lives of those who visit the children in Romania. However, it must also be said that without making too big a fuss, the pupils also learn a lot about each other and gain greater understanding of all sections of their community. It has been really encouraging to have so many people in MCB supporting our efforts, and now every pupil from Form 4 and above have the opportunity to be a member of The Romania Society. If you are a pupil in MCB, please check the assembly notices for meetings or look out for posters advertising events to find out when things are happening and how you can help! |
