Summer Term 2012
Which booklets/ topics/ themes etc will be covered in the Summer term and roughly how long will each topic take?
From the end of the Easter holidays until the beginning of May, Form One Music classes will be clearing up any assessments not completed before the Easter break.
After all assessments have been completed, classes will be beginning a Unit of Work on Graphic Scores as well as having the opportunity to familiarise themselves with Sibelius notation software in the computer suite. These topics will run until the end of June.
Will there be an end of topic test or any formal homeworks/ assessed coursework for a particular topic? If so, what will it entail and roughly when will it be set?

Are there any resources on Learning NI that parents should be aware of concerning any of the topics/ booklets that will be covered this term?
Most resources needed for the assessments for the Form One report can be accessed through LNI under the Form One Music course.
- ‘Notation – What you need to know’ and ‘Form 1 Music Vocabulary’.
- Pupils should read the documents under ‘Own Choice Solo Performance’.
- Recorder test pieces have been provided separately for pupils.
Summer Examination
No examination during the formal exam time. Pupils will complete a series of class assessments. See below:

Spring Term 2012
Which booklets/ topics/ themes etc will be covered in the Spring term and roughly how long will each topic take?
Pupils will be given an activity/theory workbook and recorder booklet in January. They will be learning basic recorder skills in conjunction with learning music theory.
Classes will be in G11 on a rotational basis to familiarise them with Sibelius music notation software and they will be writing a short composition during this time.
All of this will take place between January and March.
Will there be an end of topic test or any formal homeworks/ assessed coursework for a particular topic? If so, what will it entail and roughly when will it be set?
There will be a number of assessments taking place anytime from the end of January to the end of March (at the music teacher’s discretion).

September – October
- Pupils will learn a selection of songs including the School Song
October - December
- Pupils will learn about the voice, the choir, and the Elements of Music.
- There will be a group composition on the theme ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’
Will there be an end of topic test or any formal homeworks/ assessed coursework for a particular topic? If so, what will it entail and roughly when will it be set?
There will be a number of assessments taking place anytime from the end of October to the end of November (at the music teacher’s discretion).
They are as follows:
- A written/listening test on the different voice types, musical terms and the Elements of Music. All worksheets are available on Learning NI
- A group composition on the theme ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’. Details of this are available on LNI
- A solo performance. Each pupil must play or sing a piece for the class. Pupils will be briefed on this by their teachers.
- A formal homework where pupils must present a fact sheet on the different voice types and research a famous singer. Details of this will be made available on LNI but are not there as yet as this is the first year we have run this homework task.
