Which booklets/ topics/ themes etc will be covered in the Summer term and roughly how long will each topic take?

Unit 4 Home and Family Life 7 weeks
Unit 5 Convenience Foods and Packaging 5 weeks


Will there be an end of topic test or any formal homeworks/ assessed coursework for a particular topic?  If so, what will it entail and roughly when will it be set?

Practical exam - cupcakes 25 marks
End of year exam 75 marks

Summer Examination

Practical examination - cupcakes 25 %
End of year 45 minutes written exam 75 %
Format of written paper: Recall and data response type questions
Short answers and paragraphs
 

Work to be covered:            
- Term 1 Booklet
- Term 2 & 3 Booklet
                       
Revision tips:                     
- Revise all of the booklets thoroughly
- Make notes on each topic
- Learn key words at front of booklet
- Recipes do not need to be learnt but knowing reasons for choice of ingredients may be useful
- In the examination fill the available space for each question


Spring Term 2012

  • Unit 4:  Home and Family Life - 7 weeks

Autumn/Winter Term 2011

Which booklets/ topics/ themes etc will be covered in the Christmas term and roughly how long will each topic take?

  • Unit 1:  Introduction to Home Economics  - 2 weeks
  • Unit 2:  Preparing for Practical lessons  - 3 weeks
  • Unit 3:  Healthy Eating   -  5 weeks

Will there be an end of topic test or any formal homeworks/ assessed coursework for a particular topic?  If so, what will it entail and roughly when will it be set?

5 assessments in total - 3 assessment homeworks, a practical exam and evaluation of practical exam.  These will be carried out between now and Christmas , and are outlined at the front of their booklet.

  • Safety in HE Poster (20 marks)
  • Eat well plate homework (20 marks)
  • Packed Lunch Planning (15 marks)
  • Practical exam - packed lunch (30 marks)
  • Evaluation of practical exam (15 marks)
