Summer Term 2012

Which booklets/ topics/ themes etc will be covered in the Summer term and roughly how long will each topic take?

Stage 6 (including Slaves and Freedmen)     1 week if required  (April)
Stage 7 (including Beliefs about Life after Death)      5 weeks  (April/May)
Stage  8 (including Gladiators)    5 weeks  (May/June)

 Will there be an end of topic test or any formal homeworks/ assessed coursework for a particular topic?  If so, what will it entail and roughly when will it be set?

There will be vocabulary tests in each Stage and the average from Stages 4-7 will supply 10% of the total marks available for the Summer Report.

Stage 7      2 vocabulary tests
Stage 8  (after the examination)  2 vocabulary tests 

Are there any resources on Learning NI that parents should be aware of concerning any of the topics/ booklets that will be covered this term?  

There are no important resources on LNI but support for vocabulary learning, grammar and translation is available at www.cambridgescp.com.

Summer Examination Structure

Vocabulary (continuous assessment from January onwards)    10%
Examination paper (translation, comprehension and background)  (1 hour 15 minutes) 90%
 

Revision
All vocabulary and grammar from Stages 1-7 of the Cambridge Latin Course.
Stage 6 background information on “Slaves and Freedmen” (pp. 78-81).

Spring Term 2012

Stage 4 (including the Forum)      2 weeks if required  (January)
Stage 5 (including The Theatre)     5 weeks  (January/February)
Stage 6 (including Slaves and Freedmen)  5 weeks  (February/March)
Stage 7 (including Beliefs about Life after Death)   
(Stage 7 may not be reached in this term)
2 weeks  (March)

Autumn/Winter term 2011

Which booklets/ topics/ themes etc will be covered in the Christmas term and roughly how long will each topic take?

The Cambridge Latin Course will be covered during Term 1 as follows:

  • Stage 1 (including Housing) - 2 weeks  (September)
     
  • Stage 2 (including Daily Life) - 3 weeks  (September/October)
  • Stage 3 (including trade in Pompeii) - 3 weeks  (October November)
  • Stage 4 (including the Forum) - 3 weeks  (November/December)

There will be a short taster given of Ancient Greek at the end of the term

There will be vocabulary tests in each Stage and the average from Stages 1-3 will supply 10% of the total marks available for the Winter Report:

  • Stage 1     1 vocabulary test
  • Stage 2     1 vocabulary test
  • Stage 3     2 vocabulary tests
  • Stage 4     2 vocabulary tests

There will be three assessments:

  • Daily Life (pp. 23-23) classroom assessment (10%) at the end of Stage 2 in October.
  • Translation homework assessment (30%) at the end of Stage 3 in November.
  • Comprehension, grammar and Pompeii (pp. 33-37) classroom assessment at the end of Stage 3 in November.
