The National Schools Geology Challange

The National Schools Geology Challenge was held in the Geological Society in London recently.  There were 11 schools taking part from England, Wales and Northern Ireland and Methody won the best PowerPoint Presentation on the topic “Fuel for Thought”. As this year is the Year of Carbon in the Geological Society of London, the Lower 6 pupils took part in the Regional NI heats with the topic which was “The transition from Fossil Fuels”  and won with their discussion on the transition to Carbon neutral energy.  For part of their research they were able to use the ArcGIS for schools resources as we have become members of ESRI-Ireland for school.  The team members were Maia Willis-Reddick, Kate Macartney, Jasmjin Hofman, Luka Fuchs, Liliy McCulluogh and Audree Hassan.  With a blend of skills from computing, IT and GIS together with an interest from Geology, Geography and Science the pupils produced an excellent poster and PowerPoint and it was delivered to a high standard by Jasmjin and Kate.  Well done to all fo the group and thanks to GSNI staff, Conor Graham QUB and Aideen Croasdell from ESRI Ireland.
