Open Evenings
09/01/2012

When people hear the phrase "Modern Languages" they might not immediately think of Russian, but here in Methody it is one of the four language options available to pupils: the other options are French, German and Spanish. Russian can be studied from Form Two upwards, and students are taught listening, speaking, reading comprehension and writing skills.

During the Open Evenings, guests could learn many interesting facts about Russia from the colourful displays; take part in games and activities with a Russian theme; and even sample some Russian-style cooking!

Russian Buddies - Ben and Matthew

Many pupils from across the year groups took part in the Open Evenings. Pictured above are Ben Fisher from Form 3 and Matthew McIvor from L6, who have become good friends through the ‘Russian Buddy’ system organised by the Russian department.

The buddy system encourages senior pupils to help junior pupils on a weekly basis. Both Ben and Matthew took part in organising games and activities for the parents and P7 pupils at the Open Evening on Friday 6th January.

An example of these games can be seen below.  Parents and pupils were presented with a number of foreign words from the four Modern Languages taught in Methody - Russian, German, French or Spanish - and the aim of the game was to guess which language each word came from!
