German Debating Success
MCB has retained the German Debating Cup on Tuesday 27th February at Queen’s, having successfully argued, auf Deutsch, that homework should be abolished. The judges commented very favourably not only on our pupils’ fluency, pronunciation and intonation but also on how they managed to incorporate humour into their arguments. Although the team was Tom Alcorn (Captain), Caitriona Marsh and Charlie Warnock, this was very much a whole class effort, with Rachel Smith, as first substitute, ready to step in should any of the team fall sick, with Jack Surgenor and Alena Romanovskya helping in the background with arguments and counterarguments. Tom Alcorn is the first double champion, having been on the winning side for both the German and the Spanish debate in the same academic year.
