Edgar Graham Memorial Public Speaking Competition in Parliament Buildings, Stormont.
21/03/2019

Rencently, Jasmijn Hofman (L6V) and Kate Macartney (L6Y) participated in the Edgar Graham Memorial Public Speaking Competition in Parliament Buildings, Stormont. The annual event is organised by the Ulster Women’s Unionist Council and is adjudicated by Mrs Catherine Gardiner, a leading speech and drama teacher. Jasmijn delivered an animated and thought-provoking five-minute speech in which she argued that ‘Animals should be equal to humans under the law.’ Kate’s highly-commended speech on why ‘We should have halved our CO2 output by now’ was similarly well received. The convenor, Lady Trimble, praised the competitors for their insight and poise, emphasising the importance of well-honed communication skills in all walks of life.
